United Airlines has announced through its United Hub website that the company is on track to introduce a new class of service - Premium Plus. It will be the company’s first premium economy product. United seems to be following suit after both Delta and American announced and rolled out their premium economy products in 2016 and 2017.
The new Premium Plus class will feature seats with similar pitch and width to the F seats featured on the company’s mainline domestic routes. In Premium Plus, passengers will receive common soft products found in Polaris Business such as “a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow, an amenity kit and more.” The service in Premium Plus will also be a big upgrade from service offered in economy. Passengers seated in Premium Plus will receive similar services offered in business in terms of the dining experience. The only difference as of now, Premium Plus seats are not 180-degree flatbeds.
It is unknown the exact date the first Premium Plus product will fly, however, the company anticipates to start service sometime in late 2018. United says the product will only be available on “select international flights”.
